Workshop on Disaster Risk Management and Technological Innovations

Event : 03 days training Workshop “Disaster Risk Management and Technological Innovations”

Venue- Panjab University, Chandigarh

DST-Centre for Policy Research (CPR) at Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a 3-day training program on “Disaster Risk Management and Technological Innovations” from 22nd to 24th November-2023. The event was consist of 03 days deliberation talks by eminent speakers on Disaster Risk Management (DRM) as well as providing hands on training to the youth. The program was organized with the support of Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST), Govt. of Punjab and Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF). The training program aimed to bring together the domain experts, members of academia, scientist, researchers and key stakeholders on a common platform for understanding the role of science in enhancing Disaster Resilience by exploring the penetration of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). Various dignitaries from national level graced the event and enriched the participants with their thoughts. Prof. Yajvender Pal Verma, Registrar, Panjab University, Chandigarh graced the event and share the examples of technology innovations nurturing at Panjab University for mapping the disasters. Dr. Ashish Kumar Panda, Deputy Secretary, NITI Ayog, New Delhi was the Chief Guest and Keynote speaker for this event. He led the audience informed various government initiatives and partnerships in the domain of Disaster Risk Management (DRM). Dr. K.S. Bath, Joint Director, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Chandigarh graced the event as Guest of Honour. He highlighted the Punjab Govt. initiatives to provide skill based training to the youth of Punjab. Col. Gaurav Bhatia, Adjunct Resource Faculty, School of Internal Security and Police Administration (SISPA) was also present as Guest of Honour for this event. He led an interactive session and share his experience in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and DRM. Eminent Speakers from Prestigious Institutions such as National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Punjab State Disaster Management Authority (PSDMA), PGIMER, CSIR-CSIO, PU and IISER, Mohali gave an insightful achievements done in the domain of DRM to the participants. The workshop provided a great platform to learn various techniques and technologies that are successfully implanted for disaster resilience and mitigation. Institutions such as Punjab Red Cross Society, DRDO-DGRE, CSIR-CSIO and IMD Chandigarh were came on board to let the participants getting insights of innovations taking place at national level in the domain of Disaster Risk Management. This workshop catered 50 participants from different colleges and universities taking part in the training program..

International Conference on Industry Focused Research (ICIFR)-TEC-2023

DST-CPR, PU engaged as an active collaborative partner with DST-Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) at Panjab University, Chandigarh, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Punjab State Council for Science & Technology (PSCST) to organize “International Conference on Industry Focused Research (ICIFR)-TEC-2023”, on 12 Oct., 2023. The conference aimed to enable transfer of Technologies developed by Scientists from PAN India to Industry partners. More than 100 plus scientists, academicians & industry people from different domains of Engineering, Medical devices, Pharmaceuticals, Food-processing, Automation, Materials, Agriculture etc. participated in this conference. In line to main theme of the conference to foster the need of industries through Industry Academia (IA) interlinkage, DST-CPR conducted a survey for assessing the level of I-A linkages. The survey proved to be an important & worthwhile tool for the ongoing study at DST-CPR. As immense response received from the Academia and Industry.

Symposium on IP Management

DST-Centre for Policy Research (CPR) in collaboration with Department of Biotechnology, Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a one-day Symposium on “Intellectual Property (IP) Management in Academic and Research Institutes” on October 19th, 2023. Symposium aimed to familiarize the researchers/academicians/industrialists involved in basic and translational research projects with the concept of IP management including IP generation, protection and capitalization to cater the growing global market demands.

Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC) outreach event

Event : Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC) outreach event

Prof. Kashmir Singh, Coordinator, DST-CPR, PU was invited as panelist at Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC) outreach event platform on 14th September, 2023 held at Chandigarh. The aim of the event was to introduce IGSTC and showcase various programmes to the various stakeholders. The ‘Outreach Event’ intended to make programmes offered by IGSTC more visible and accessible to a larger number of universities/institutions in India, including Northern region of India. IGSTC has been supporting several research/academic institutions from India and Germany to catalyse Indo-German strategic R&D partnerships through various programmes. IGSTC regularly engages with various stakeholders from Universities, Research Institutions, Industries and Government agencies to promote IGSTC programmes. In line to this, a panel discussion was held in the outreach event by IGSTC where discussion on international S&T cooperation as well as on bridging the gap between Industry and Academia took place. Prof. Kashmir Singh highlighted the various initiatives that DST-CPR, PU has taken in this regard and how each initiative had played a key role in framing the S&T ecosystem of India.

Er. Mamta Bhardwaj, Sr. Scientist at DST-Centre for Policy Research at Panjab University, Chandigarh attended the summer school at the CODATA-RDA School for Research Data Science | (smr 3861) at Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy from July 31st to August 11, 2023. The Summer School was designed to builds competence in data analysis, data management, data platforms and infrastructures, large scale analysis, statistics, visualisation and modelling techniques, software development, predatory journals, analysis through tools like GIT Hub, RStudio, Unix Shell, etc. The school also included principles and practice of research data management, authorship in the 21st century, data curation, data security, open science, data visualization, machine learning and artificial neural networks.

Prof. Kashmir Singh, Coordinator of DST-CPR, Panjab University delivered a talk on “Start-ups policies to promote Entrepreneurship” at “National Symposium cum Ideathon 3.0” organized by Institution Innovation Council (IIC) and CU Punjab Research and Development Foundation (CUPRDF) of Central University of Punjab, Bathinda. The Symposium was organised to celebrate India’s presidency of the G20 “UNVEILING INDIA’S FOCUS ON INNOVATION AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP TO ENABLE START-UP ECOSYSTEM”. Align to this Prof. Kashmir Singh in his talk threw the light on various start-ups initiatives take by GoI. He talked about Science, Technology and Innovation ecosystem in India that helps to strengthen the start-ups and innovation ecosystem in India. In his talk Prof. Kashmir engaged the audience by highlighting the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and various initiatives taken under CSR to strengthen start-ups in India. Pof. Singh also threw the light on emerging DeepTech Start-ups and the draft National Deep Tech Startup Policy (NDTSP) released for Public Consultation by Office of Principal Scientific Advisor to GoI.

Consultative meeting under the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)- Facility for Low Carbon Technology Deployment (FLCTD) led project going on at DST-CPR, PU took place with the representatives of the Technology Transfer Offices (TTOs) from various HEIs and NRLs of India. The meeting aimed to discuss the Technology Transfer ecosystem of India. It was attended by UNIDO representatives: Dr. Rene Van Berkel, UNIDO Representative and head of UNIDO’s Regional Office in India; Mr. Sanjaya Shrestha, Industrial Development Officer, UNIDO – Vienna; Mr. Sandeep Tandon , Country Programme Manager and Mr. Nitesh Kaushik, National Expert-Tech. Transfer, UNIDO-FLCTD. The meeting led to discuss the means and way to enhance and increase the competitiveness of Indian TTOs as well as to increase efforts to accelerate Technology Transfer (TT) ecosystem at HEIs and NRLs levels of India.”

IPR Awarness Programme

As part of the National Intellectual Property Awareness Mission (NIPAM), launched by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India in 2021, DST-Centre for Policy Research (CPR) in collaboration with DPIIT-IPR Chair and Department of Biophysics ,Panjab University, Chandigarh organized a ‘IPR Awarness Programme’. The National seminar was conceived as part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav ‘with the aim of increasing IP awareness amongst the faculty, research experts, and students of Panjab University, Chandigarh. Mr. Shailendra Singh, Examiner of Patents and Designs, Indian Patent Office, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, New Delhi was the resource person for this event. Mr. Singh is actively associated with NIPAM mission who defend the value of intellectual property (IP) in the contemporary era and its existence in nearly every sphere of life. He  shared with young students how innovations can lead to IP value and how students can file IPs and solve society’s problems.
