Event: Innovation-driven economic growth in Asia focusing on India

The scientific team of DST-Centre for Policy Research, Panjab University, Chandigarh, led by their coordinator, Professor Rupinder Tewari, was a part of the three-day conclave organized by Zaheer Science Foundation, New Delhi on ‘Innovation-driven economic growth in Asia focussing on India’ at Goa University from November 27 to 29, 2019. Prof. Tewari apprised the participants about the research activities carried out by the Centre, specifically pertaining to the IP profile and its commercialization by the Indian HEIs and NRLs. His talk was further extrapolated by Ms Mamta Bhardwaj (Sr. Scientist C) who dwelled on the subject of strengthening the translational ecosystem in India and Dr Radhika Trikha, who deliberated on Government mediated R&D incentives of the private sector in India.
The conclave saw participation by some eminent personalities like Dr T Ramasami (frm Secretory-DST), Dr G Thyagarajan (fmr Director-CSIR), Prof. Varun Sahani (VC-Goa University), Dr Manoj Kumar Patairiya (Director- CSIR-NISCAIR) and Dr H R Bhojwani (fmr Head Technology Utilization-CSIR). Dr T Ramasami enlightened the participants about the evolution of the current science policies and stressed that science and research needed to work for benefit of the society.
It was held with an agenda to promote science and technology in the country, meeting the challenges and utilizing opportunities which have emerged from the globalization of the world economy. The conclave was organized in partnership with UNESCO Regional Office, New Delhi and sponsored by DST, New Delhi; CSIR, New Delhi; Knowledge and Awareness Mapping Platform (KAMP), NOIDA and ALM Industries Limited, Saharanpur.
