Event: 5th Meeting of Medical Device Innovation Cluster (MDIC)

The 5th Meeting of Medical Device Innovation Cluster (MDIC, Chandigarh Region) under CRIKC was held in the Seminar Hall of Department of SAIF/CIL, Panjab University, Chandigarh on Saturday, April 6th 2019. This Meeting saw the participation from both industry and academia. 

Salient points addressed by the participants were:

  • A CRIKC ‘Deliverables Gallery’ should be established at Panjab University, to showcase the technologies developed by CRIKC member institutes. This gallery would act as a one-stop point where technologies developed in the Chandigarh region could be accessed by Industry and other technology takers for the purpose of transfer and commercialization.
  • CRIKC should engage with ministries such as Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of AYUSH, Ministry of Rural Development, etc. to identify socially relevant areas for innovation.
  • To strengthen industry-academia interface CRIKC should adopt a specific agenda e.g. sector specific industry-academia clusters, addressing societal problems through industry-academic intervention etc.
  • SAIF/CIL laboratories should operate via 24×7 mode and organize workshops on Instruments for exposing students from neighbouring and north east states.
  • CRIKC management may look into global Industry-Academia models e.g. sector-specific research collaborations models of Israel.
  • CRIKC should work on futuristic technologies which are low in carbon footprint.
  • Punjab Biotechnology Incubator (PBTI) model may be adopted by CRIKC for collaborative I-A research.
  • CRIKC must regularly conduct ‘Science Hackathon’ where industrial problems are placed on an open platform for students and researchers to come forward with solutions and different ideas to address these problems.
  • DST sponsored Technology Enabling Centre would be a game changer in stimulating the patents, products and technologies. Prototypes developed by CRIKC member institutes has been presented and highlighted.
  • CRIKC member institutes should make use of services (IP, Tech Transfer etc.) of newly established DST-Technology Enabling Centre (TEC) at PU, Chd.
  • All the participants unanimously passed that Honourable Governor of Punjab should be requested to be the Chief Patron of CRIKC, so as to develop close linkages with Chandigarh administration.
