Event: India-UK Industry-Academia Symposium

DST-Centre for Policy Research at Panjab University, Chandigarh, in association with the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK and Ministry of Commerce and Industry, GoI, New Delhi organized a two day ‘India-UK Industry-Academia Symposium’ entitled, ‘Working in Systems not Silos: Driving Growth and Innovation through Industry-Academia Partnerships’, on April 16th and 17th, 2018.
The joint symposium aimed at providing a platform as well as an opportunity for sharing lessons and experiences for enhancing Industry-Academia (I-A) collaborative research ecosystem in both the countries. In developed countries, including UK, collaborative research between universities and industries contributes significantly towards novel innovations having commercial and societal impact.
Over the course of two days there were held discussions and deliberations over different aspects of collaboration between the industry and academia. Prof. Vinod K Paul, Member, NITI Aayog, New Delhi was the ‘Chief Guest’ of the event and Prof. Anil D Sahasrabudhe, Chairman, AICTE, New Delhi, delivered the ‘Keynote Address’, during the Inaugural Session on the first day of symposium. Various experts (scientists, industrialists and policy makers) from UK and India shared models of public-private partnership in R&D thereby giving valuable lessons in this domain. The Symposium also had dedicated sessions on Commercialization of Patents, Technology Parks and Business Incubators. In addition, an IPR Workshop entitled ‘Best Practices for Boosting IP Commercialization and Technology Transfer’ was conducted by experts from UK.
A Round Table Meet entitled ‘Enhancing University-Industry Ecosystem in India’, was held for deliberating on strengthening I-A R&D ecosystem in India, which was Chaired by Dr. Anil Wali, MD, Foundation for Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), IIT-Delhi, New Delhi.
